Thursday
Had a wee lie in, up about 8:30 and nowhere to go.
God, was it going to be boring after the trip? Well no.
I spent virtually all day on the lap top, forging away at this blog dear reader. We would be on the go again in two days time so this had to be done.
"Instead of surfing the web" Margaret asked, " Why don't we go down to the beach and I will show you my surfing skills that I picked up in Ballyronan". My wee ears pricked up at this. "Only kidding" she winced "But we could go to Victoria Market"
This is a huge version of St Georges Market in Belfast. Over 1000 stalls where you can buy your fresh fruit and veg, meat, fish, bakery, deli, and cheeses. There are also loads of stalls offering all the kind of Tat you'd expect to see where there are tourists plus all manner of things for the home and garden. Up and onto the train, it would let us off at Elizabeth Street and we'd walk the few blocks uphill to the market. The city was heaving. After being in really rural environs for some days it was a bit of a culture shock. Having said that though, we found the average person here to be a lot better mannered than those we meet at home.Even on the roads there is a much better level of tolerance. I wonder if this is the general laid back attitude that prevails elsewhere? We bought enough meat to do us for three days along with lovely fresh fruit and veg. Wye River, our next destination is fairly isolated but there is a local store and local prices as well I'll wager. You can find about a dozen or more varieties of spuds in Victoria market. There is even a variety called "Nicola". I always knew she was a decent spud, but this is taking the urine. Having said that, we found the humble spud to be a bit too humble. There are folk here that don't have it on their menu, ever!
